Savor Every Moment Of Kobe Bryant’s Games; Coach Byron Scott To Tolerate
Kobe Bryant makes his final visit as a Los Angeles Laker to the nation’s capital when his team continues a lengthy road trip Wednesday at Washington.
The Sixers’ win also snaps a 29-game losing streak, the longest string of futility in any of the four major sports.
This was a night to remember for Bryant even though his 20 points came on a 7-for-26 shooting night… even though the Sixers ended their 0-18 for this season and record-setting 0-28 going back to last season with a 103-91 victory over the almost-as-bad, 2-15 Lakers. The Sixers are 1-18 this season.
The Lakers clawed back in front behind Jordan Clarkson, who had 12 points in the third period, but the Sixers notched the last six points of the quarter on two free throws and a dunk by Noel, as well as a jam by Grant.
Head coach Brett Brown was also happy about the win for his team and for the Philadelphia fans. “I want you to know now so we both can savor every moment we have left together”. He took selfies with fans and his presence injected a playoff atmosphere into a city that has lost much of its passion in National Basketball Association games.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Kobe Bryant is in his final National Basketball Association season but is still making headlines. “Deeply appreciative, beyond belief; I couldn’t have asked for anything better other than winning the game”, he said. “It was really, really special”. The chants picked up again upon game’s end and Bryant walked off the court waving and tapping his chest.
Bryant made three of his first four shots – all of them 3-pointers – but finished seven-of-26 from the floor.
Nerlens Noel came off the bench after missing the past two games with knee tendinitis and contributed 14 points and nine rebounds. Brown said Okafor, who has apologized for his recent decisions, will likely soon be accompanied by team security on public outings.
“We line up, and McConnell goes ‘I can’t believe I’m about to line up for a jump ball against you”.
His high school coach, Gregg Downer, and Erving presented him with his framed Lower Merion jersey before the game. A few pushes and shoves between the center and guard brought the Sixers’ JaKarr Sampson and Grant into the mix, garnering a few technical fouls. The three-time NBA MVP, who helped lead the franchise to the 1983 NBA title, died at age 60 on September 13 from cardiovascular disease. Meanwhile, during halftime, it was announced next season the 76ers will retire the number 2 jersey of Moses Malone, who passed away in September.
