Scans show Jimmy Carter is cancer free
The doctors found that the cancer has spread to four parts of his brain. He had been taking the treatment for melanoma, which included a targeted radiation therapy and immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab. “I have got thousands of friends and I have had an exciting and adventurous and gratifying existence”, Carter said. “We’re on the edge of a revolution in oncology”.

In August, Carter had a portion of his liver removed.
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has revealed that his most recent MRI brain scan showed that his cancer has gone.

Not all cancers will recur, and if cancer cells do survive treatment it could take years before they develop into identifiable disease.
Oncologists are concerned about giving chemotherapy drugs to older cancer patients because of the toxicity issues, which can cause nausea and fatigue. A representative said “while advanced Melanoma has historically been considered difficult-to-treat, recently there have been several advances that have been restoring hope for patients with this devastating disease as well as their physicians”.

A previous test showed the spots were responding to treatment, he said.
