Scholes blasts Pogba and says Mourinho should buy Modric
Former club legend Paul Scholes, however, feels that all his woes are not totally down to individual performance and it’s too early to start judging him.
PAUL SCHOLES BELIEVES former team-mate Michael Carrick could prove the ideal foil for Paul Pogba in the centre of Manchester United’s midfield.
“All I can say is at Ciro Ferrara’s farewell game at the San Paolo, Zlatan called me and told me: “Mino, I want to end my career in Naples”.
Pogba suffered heavy criticism from Jamie Carragher in the aftermath of Saturday’s Manchester derby defeat against Manchester City, with the former Liverpool defender suggesting that the Frenchman was partly responsible for United’s poor performance.
And after the match Paul Scholes noted: “Pogba seems to be a little all over the place at times”.
“I know he’s (Mourinho) happy with the four players he’s bought but they still need that type of player”. He was too far back for me, he kept picking the ball up in the middle of defence. “It is normal after the first game (against Southampton) – which he played well – for him to have a little decrease but I have a lot of trust in him”.
After the game reputed pundit and Manchester United legend Paul Scholes stated that he felt Pogba was trying to be something he was not.
United paid an eye-watering 105million euros (£89million) to bring back a player who left them four years earlier in search of first-team football, with a further five million euros (£4.25million) due if certain targets are met. He should keep it simple for now.
“They bought a powerful, strong midfield player who can take the ball”.
“He told BT Sport: “[Jose] Mourinho needs to find the right balance or partners. ‘They probably need to go into the transfer market for somebody like that.
Scholes added that United should pursue Real Madrid pair Modric and Kroos to help Pogba – or just play Carrick.
‘I think Schneiderlin is nearly more concerned about his defensive role rather than being the playmaker in the team, ‘ continued Scholes.
“You realise that other clubs paying 20, 30, 40 is a much bigger thing than what Man United did, and I just want Paul to forget that and to play his football”.
