School board member accused of making threats to other board members
The PSD Board of Education voted Tuesday to change the district’s 2017-18 calendar following complaints about the district keeping students in school through Friday, Dec. 23 this school year.
The students know us and we know them, as we are a constant during their time in school.
SPECIAL EDUCATION: The Manatee County school district plans to mainstream many children with special needs over the next four years, the Bradenton Herald reports.
“There’s still no explanation of what we’re going to get”, Bill Vonada, the Cranberry superintendent, said at Monday’s school board meeting. Ah, yes, the Michigan Legislature left the Detroit district sitting on the precipice of bankruptcy in December 2015 – just adjourned and left town, leaving in the lurch district officials and teachers and students all awaiting word that Detroit would even have a school district.
“Our school board will be reviewing proposals and financial numbers prior to any resolutions regarding the enterprise zone”.
“The teachers are happy, the students are happy, and when they are happy, the principal is happy”, Robinson said of having contracted custodians.
The board also approved a plan that would offer an incentive for teachers to retire at the end of the current school year in an effort to avoid layoffs. The lowest expenditure was Juniata County School District, at $10,686 per student, and the highest was Richland at $37,165.
“Because that budget year we ended with unspent funds, [the argument is] we should take whatever number you gave us [that year] and take $400,000 out”, McMorran said. “We certainly can’t affect the national climate, but on a local level, we want to express support for school safety”.
Over the last few years, there has been much discussion about the possibility of doing away with property taxes and replacing that revenue stream with funds raised from increased state sales and income taxes.
The board also approved the elimination of one Spanish language teacher for 2018-19 and one physical education, one music and one family and consumer science teacher for 2019-20.
The newly appointed school board member will serve until Dec.31.
Monahan said that, while the school district is not anticipating an increase in enrollment come September, the Board of Education is definitely anxious that it may escalate in the future.
The following month, Segura brought the issue to the district via a grievance, which can be filed only when an alleged violation of contract takes place.
Students in the Bethel School District will be in class February 13, Feb. 20, March 3, June 19 and June 20 to make up for the six canceled days of school and two delayed starts because of weather.
To an extent, the district is playing catch-up in closing a $4.6 million budget hole for this year’s budget.
The board has already picked her successor, Steven Pophal. “It would help us attract teachers if we’d be able to raise the cap”. We reversed almost two-thirds of the $1 billion cut made to our public school system in 2011, making the largest investment to public education – $640 million – in the history of the commonwealth. We can not get ahead if our schools fall behind.
