School to support Safer Internet Day
“Today marks Safer Internet Day, which helps promote the safe, positive and responsible use of online technology and devices”, says Ms Adams.
To help build awareness and promote safer surfing, the UK Safer Internet Centre launches its Safer Internet Day today – this year the theme is “play your part for a better internet”.
Safer Internet Day is celebrated on the second Tuesday of every February in more than 100 countries.
The event, live from the Globe Theater at Universal Studios, will also include a panel: “Rejecting Hate, Building Resilience & Growing the Good Online”, moderated by activist and student filmmaker Leo Sheng, which will feature student leaders discussing ways they are taking their emotional well-being into their own hands and supporting their peers. This real-time conversation can be accessed through GMP’s main Twitter account, @gmpolice, using the hashtag #askgmp.

Think of activities you can do as a family online.
“I would remind them that there’s a difference between exercising freedom of speech or making a humorous comment and committing a criminal offence”.
“We would always advise that it a young person becomes uncomfortable or suspicious of someone else’s behaviour online then they should report it”.
Ask them what they would like other users to do to make it safer?
“We should take full advantage of what digital technology has to offer, but we must also be wary of online criminals who would seek to do us harm”.
Whether you want advice about security settings or would like to know more about the main areas of risks posed to young people online, they will be ready to take your questions. From fraud to online grooming and sexual exploitation, the world of cybercrime is a murky place that can be both bewildering and risky.
“The volume and range of support we’ve seen for this year’s Safer Internet Day is truly inspiring”, said Will Gardner, a Director of the UK Safer Internet Centre and CEO of Childnet.
