Schumer seeking study of new peanut butter
Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) is warning his constituents about STEEM peanut butter, saying the 170 milligrams per serving could endanger those who don’t realize what they are getting when eating the spread that looks just like regular peanut butter.
Steem said the feds are welcome to investigate but the peanut butter is “perfectly safe when used as directed”.
According to STEEM Caffeinated Peanut Butter Inc.’s website, the product is sold at locations Connecticut and Massachusetts.
“Do not feed this peanut butter to your child”, the Senator said when talking about the product.
“Parents shouldn’t have to worry about their child biting into a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that contains more caffeine than a cup of Joe”, the senator said.
Makers of the new caffeinated STEEM peanut butter boast that a single serving has the same amount of caffeine in two cups of coffee. They should put limits on how much is allowed, particularly in snack food and foods that are not ingested for caffeine sake like Red Bull, and they should certainly require labels.
Schumer noted that the health consequences of consuming too much caffeine could be serious in a few cases. “But it can raise their blood pressure, cause heart palpitations and worse”, he said.
Caffeinated peanut butter could also be unsafe for pets. We know that your dog loves peanut butter and we know you think it’d be hilarious to get him all jacked up and insane, BUT DON’T.
