Schwarber on Cubs’ World Series roster; could start at DH
The Chicago Cubs try to start snapping a 108-year drought while extending the Indians’ streak of World Series futility to 69 years when they visit Cleveland for Game 1 on Tuesday. But without cable, you could be sitting at home worrying that you’re going to miss Game 1. The Cubs now hold the longest title drought in professional sports (108 years) while the Indians hold the second longest (68 years). Corey Kluber is set to pitch the opener for the Indians – he started both games Cleveland played vs. the Cubs in spring training, giving up one run in eight innings.
To make room for Schwarber, Chicago removed relief pitcher Rob Zastryzny from their playoff roster. It’s been a long road back for Schwarber ever since this happened: The injury was initially reported as an ankle injury, but later tests revealed a full tear of the ACL. Unlike many injured players, Schwarber would stick around to watch the games. Whether you need shoulder to cry on or a shoulder to stand on as you celebrate. “But once it started getting back to being normal baseball again, it started slowing down”.
“This is probably going to be the most popular betting World Series that we’ve seen in recent memory … based on what we’ve seen so far I’m pretty sure the wagering will surpass what we saw in 2004”. Bottom line is that they are the deeper, more versatile squad. “I thought I was going without my dad, but I’m with him”. Their offense has struggled in the postseason, in particular right fielder Jason Heyward, who was benched Saturday. Obviously, Heyward has been ineffective all season long.
“We basically got the news at six months that we had hoped to get at seven months, which was Dr. Cooper upon examining him cleared him to run the bases”.
I plan on bringing Bubba some Cubs memorabilia: a World Series champions T-shirt and ball cap.
“How many years is it since 1945?” he laughed.
“They’re a good team from top to bottom”, said supreme setup man Adam Miller, who has spent the postseason toying with hitters. All of the games will air on FOX, with first pitch sceduled for 7:08 p.m. local time in the first four.
Cleveland? They think they’ve suffered. Schwarber was 0 for 3 with a walk in his first game with the Mesa Solar Sox, watching his Chicago teammates beat the Dodgers on a tablet in the dugout between plate appearances.
Wild Thing will have to stay in the bullpen during the World Series. So, while the opportunity is there, roll the dice.
The 23-year-old outfielder was batting fifth as the designated hitter.
