Schweinsteiger shrugs off Beckenbauer comments and claims Manchester
Manchester United’s new signing Bastian Schweinsteiger has said that United is used to winning titles, as is he, and the club matches his ambitions.
Beckenbauer moved to the now-defunct North American Soccer League in 1977 to play for he New York Cosmos, aged 31, but Schweinsteiger feels he still has plenty to offer.
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has described Bastian Schweinsteiger as a “legend” and admits the club will struggle to replace him.
Ozil, 26, told German TV channel Sport1 that Bundesliga players are well-suited to the switch. And Schweinsteiger, who is keen to prove the ex-defender wrong, believes he is ready for the challenge.
Said the 29-year-old. “When that time comes, that’ll be something I’d think about”.
He is hoping that world champions Germany can deliver too, first by doing enough to qualify for Euro 2016 and then by excelling at the tournament itself in France next June. “I didn’t cry but my brother was very happy”. I want to win titles.
Now obviously United have spent more money than City and the size of your outlay is no guarantee of a return on your money – both clubs can wince at past examples of that scenario. “I remember once when we played there, we lost 3-2 but we moved on to the next round – but these supporters were very respectful after the match, they gave us applause and I am looking forward to playing in front of these supporters”.
“I am convinced about that and I want to add my quality to United’s game”. “United are more popular around the world”.
The 30-year-old starred alongside fellow new signing Morgan Schneiderlin, who managed to score on his debut with the only goal of the game. “It is impossible. Scholes especially, I like him a lot and I have a lot of respect for what he did for United”.
“It was always a dream to be a Manchester United player”.
