Sconsin Veterans will be honored Tuesday at special ceremony

Commemoration of the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month was originally meant to express relief for an armistice, the stopping of fighting.

Let us also extend gratitude and honor to all of those men and women who have lost their lives defending our country. In past wars, many young men were drafted into service; today, however, they go willingly despite knowing they are putting themselves in harm’s way.

In all, Kentucky is home to more than 330,000 veterans who have served bravely in uniform.

We hope you watch and listen to these stories so that you will have a deeper understanding and appreciation for what veterans give to us. The members of the Military and Veterans Club (MVC) on campus has taken it upon themselves to address the necessity of this day. In Montana, the Disabled American Veterans donate vehicles to the Veterans Health Administration. It will provide funding for many important projects, including design work at a new VA medical center in Louisville, a special operations headquarters at Fort Campbell, and educational facilities at Fort Knox. From everyday small feats to undeniably heroic efforts, the accomplishments and achievements of America’s armed services and its veterans are vast and significant. I believe these pieces of legislation are the least I can do to recognize and honor the great sacrifices these men and women have made. “It’s going to be a tremendous experience maybe the experience of a lifetime for most of these guys”, Albracht said.

Our heroes – those who came home alive and those who didn’t – deserve our thanks each and every single day, and I am so proud we have a day dedicated to them.
