Scott hopes All-Star Game opens doors when career is over
However, Scott was traded before the All-Star Game to the Montreal Canadiens of the Atlantic Division and subsequently sent down to the American Hockey League to play with the St. John’s IceCaps. The NHL thought it was a farce, and Scott said last week the league tried to get him to skip the game.
Fans voted Scott into the game as captain of the Pacific Division even though he has scored only five goals in 285 career games.
It took just 47 seconds for Brent Burns to set up former teammate John Scott for a goal, and the story only got better from there on Sunday in Nashville at the annual NHL All-Star Game. He seemed a bit stunned as he soaked everything in, including being announced the MVP and presented with a Honda Pilot Touring SUV.
Scott then posed with his teammates behind their $1 million check.
John Scott went from being an internet prank to Most Valuable Player at the National Hockey League All Star game in Nashville. Again, his teammates, coaches and the sellout crowd loved it. “It was great for (Scott) to show everybody how good a player he is”, said defenseman Brett Burns, Scott’s All-Star teammate. The Atlantic went on to lose to the team from the Pacific Division 1-0, giving the Western Conference the title.
“He said, ‘I’m proud of you”.
Fan favorite John Scott was voted tournament MVP to cap off the fesitivities in fine fashion. P.K. Subban netted the final tally of the game and despite a tense last few moments, the Atlantic took home the first win of the evening thanks to some really solid defense.
“I’m happy for him; I’m sure he’s probably on Cloud 1,000 and he should be”.
Even analyst Jeremy Roenick, a former player and outspoken critic of Scott’s involvement in the game, was forced to admit that the forward had “been the most entertaining part” of the day. He scored twice in the tournament, both in the semifinal round as he helped lead his team to an All-Star Game victory.
His controversial selection dominated All-Star headlines for the month leading into the game and ruffled the feathers of NHL executives, who conspired to have the basher stricken from the game they prefer to showcase hockey’s top talent.
While San Jose nemesis Corey Perry scored the lone goal in the final for the Pacific Division, the night belonged to Scott who was masterful in the way he handled himself in the build up to the game. “It’s been unbelievable. You can’t write this stuff”.
“I feel like I’m dreaming”, she said. “It’s not the first time you’ve been wrong”, Scott said with a straight face.
The combo of Metropolitan Division captains couldn’t get it done, though, and lost to the Atlantic Division 5-4 in the first round of the new mini-tournament of 3-on-3 play. “We put ourselves in good position the first 50 or so games of the season and now we have to trend in the right direction going into the playoffs.”.
