Scott MVP Of NHL All-Star Game
Scott, who only had five career National Hockey League goals in the regular season before the weekend began, was named the MVP of the All-Star three-on-three tournament after captaining the Pacific Division to a tournament win. Scott’s teammates even briefly lifted him onto their shoulders during a postgame interview.
Not long after he had been named MVP and handed a $1 million check to divvy between his teammates, John Scott’s wife was overcome with emotion.
The morning after the NHL’s All-Star Game and while everyone reflects on the events of the last few days the industry is taking a look at the numbers, and not just the number of goals NHL All-Star MVP John Scott scored last night. Scott now plays in the minors for the Canadiens, but he represented the Pacific Division because he was on the Arizona Coyotes’ NHL roster when he was voted in, prior to a January 15 trade to Montreal.
Scott wasn’t listed among the three MVP candidates for a social-media vote late in the final game.
Scott’s selection to the All-Star Game had the league miffed, but it had fans entertained.
“You can’t put it into words”, Scott said. Hopefully they keep the game plan intact for next year’s festivities in Los Angeles. Wouldn’t you know, the Internet saw an opening for the IceCaps to pay tribute to their most prominent player, and what could they do but acquiesce. Scott then got a shot on goal, which was denied by Pekka Rinne. Both semifinal favorites – Central and Metropolitan – lost and an expected flurry of goals in the championship period never materialized.
Scott added that the entire week has “been like a dream nearly”.
Florida forward Jaromir Jagr, captain of the Atlantic Division, skated in his 10th All-Star Game and became the third-oldest to take part in the event behind only Gordie Howe (51 in 1980) and Doug Harvey (44 in 1969).
“I am looking forward to enjoying a fun and unique experience at All-Star Weekend in Nashville with my family”, Scott said after the league gave him the green light. Did anybody here even think he’d be as good as he was?
But fans flooded Twitter with #VoteMVPScott and so there he was after the game, being handed a trophy, a Honda Pilot Touring SUV, and an oversized million-dollar check (to split among his teammates) after scoring two goals.
As though to remind everyone of his 542 penalty-minute pedigree, Scott playfully toppled Kane, which prompted the league’s scoring leader to drop the gloves in a mock bout.
The only thing cooler would have been if they had won and played one more game.
The NHL All-Star weekend crowds along the bar-lined Broadway main drag next to Bridgestone Arena were nearly impossibly enormous and enthusiastic, making their way from bar to bar until the wee hours.
“I just kind of got sick and exhausted of reading articles that just portrayed me as a slow-footed goon who just can’t play and is here as a joke”, he said.
Dylan Larkin was the only rookie in the game, and was the first rookie to represent the Red Wings in a game since 1984 when Steve Yzerman introduced us to his greatness.
Although my knowledge of curling and Gaelic football is not quite up to snuff, I’m pretty sure ice hockey is the civilized world’s only sport where you will find an athlete identified as a “journeyman enforcer”.
