Scott Weiland’s Bassist Arrested for Cocaine Possession
The vocalist died in his sleep on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota while on tour with his current band The Wildabouts. Black was booked for “5th degree felony possession of drugs”, according to TMZ. The Hennepin County medical examiner confirmed Mr. Weiland’s death in a news release Friday, saying he died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Country Inn & Suites at the Mall of America in Bloomington.
Weiland was best known as the lead singer and a founding member of the popular grunge rock band Stone Temple Pilots.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry called Weiland a “gifted performer” and rocker Alice Cooper tweeted “what a voice we’ve lost”.
Friday’s police statement confirmed Weiland had died and said his band’s tour bus was parked in a lot across the street from the Mall of America in Bloomington, a city about 15 kilometres south of Minneapolis.
“Part of that gift was part of your curse“, they said.
Cocaine was discovered in multiple locations in throughout the tour bus after the authorities executed a search warrant as part of their investigation into the death of the former Stone Temple Pilots frontman. The cause of death was not immediately reported.

Weiland’s 2011 autobiography Not Dead And Not For Sale included candid acknowledgements by the singer regarding the impact of his heroin addiction on his stints with Stone Temple Pilots and the post-STP supergroup Velvet Revolver. All our love and respect. While the group disbanded in 2002, they reunited in 2008 and put out another album in 2010, but the band fired Scott Weiland in 2013. Singer Ryan Adams tweeted “Universe, please take care of him”, while filmmaker Judd Apatow said watching Weiland perform was “some of my favourite concerts of all time”.
The singer is also survived by his two children with his second wife, Mary Forsberg, Noah, 15, and Lucy, 13.
