Scranton native, former US senator considers challenge to Hillary Clinton
The chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign on Monday brushed off suggestions that the White House might endorse Vice President Joe Biden if he decides to run against Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.
A spokeswoman for Biden said Monday, “The Vice President has not made a decision about his political future”. So I think you could make the case that there is probably no one in American politics today who has a better understanding of exactly what is required to mount a successful national presidential campaign.
Just back from two weeks of vacation on the tony Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard, Obama held his weekly lunch with Biden Monday.
Clinton has more latitude than Biden in breaking with Obama policies given that her portfolio in the administration was largely limited to foreign affairs.
Biden is expected to make a decision about running against Hillary at the end of the summer.
While the vice president’s office has been mum about his 2016 plans, Biden has begun to look like he’s at least weighing becoming a candidate.
“I don’t think anyone has been anointed”, she said in response to a question on whether it was a mistake for Democrats to “anoint” Clinton as the nominee.
