“Scream Queens” Recap: ‘Mommie Dearest’
The Red Devil spares no drama with this week’s murder victim, its knife taking to her waxy brain matter like a long-stemmed lighter to a delicate wick. If she was filming on her laptop, wouldn’t she have seen the Devil approaching her from behind before he stabbed her? She beats him/her up and unsuccessfully calls the “911 automated system”. Sadly, there wasn’t almost as many good ones as per usual, though the show made up for it with that opening scene with Jamie Lee facing off against the Devils, which was totally bad-ass. “We take her out and then we finish what we set out to do”. However, it also introduced horror homages, new rivalries, and plenty of clues to the mystery of the Red Devil.
As if the odds weren’t already stacked against her, a third killer, disguised as Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, shows up.
This show is delightfully random. She punched someone wearing a Richard Nixon mask knocking them out cold.
Hester, pointing out that both Zayday and Grace are on the pill, as evidence: “Their cycles are synched”. Barf, Ms. Bean died in there! She says she lives with these “dumb hoes” now, and No. 3 shrugs and offers her the most money Denise can think of to prove Zayday’s the Red Devil.
Dean Munsch, for not following through with her promise (and after Grace suggests she’s next), is attacked by Red Devil. Bye, bye, Jennifer! Sad, but, while she was getting murdered, Denise speaks with the Chanels and requests a 10 percent advance to her $3 million deal. Jennifer is convinced that Zayday is not the killer; however, she does tell Denise that Zayday confided in her that she wants to get real revenge on entitled rich girls due to being bullied in high school. There will also be a candlelight vigil held for Jennifer or, as she’s better known as, “that very unusual girl with the really odd candle fetish”.
One of the red devils seems ready to catch her in a moment of vulnerability in that shower, but she’s 100% ready for him/her and that iconic curtain pullback reveals that she’s gone. Join me next week for what should be the beginning of the end, if the show knows what’s good for it. Sound off below with you insane theories and predictions on who will get it next, and see you next week! In the wake of another murder, Munsch is left with no options but to shut campus down, which of course is a disaster for Chanel whose popularity and relationship with Chad Radwell depend on campus being open and Kappa House thriving.
Grace and Peter go through the folder Munsch gave her, and they map out the possible things that could have happened to Grace’s mother and the baby.
Grace then confronts Gigi with not only the painting, but also the revelation that her resume had many fabrications.
This is an episode where Chanel not only has the best lines of the entire thing, she just so happens to make a lot sense throughout. I think exclaiming “there might be hope!” in the middle of a show recap might be a little like yelling “fire!” in a movie theater: it causes so much unnecessary excitement and bustle, and can be disappointing (especially to all of the arsonists out there).
“She ended up hooking up with a d–bag by the name of Wes Garden [and] nearly exactly nine months later she had you”, Chanel says. Chanel tells Grace that she’s the daughter of the former Kappa president Bethany Stevens, who changed her name to Mary Mulligan to escape the fact that she covered up the baby’s birth. He gazes into a fragmented mirror, real sinister-style. For example, Nick Jonas’s character, Boone, is back and boy does he have a secret up his red latex sleeve! Let us know what your thoughts are!
From the dossier we find out that Grace’s mom met her father, Wes, at that fateful party (or shortly thereafter), got knocked up, dropped out of college, became a drug addict, and died in a vehicle crash when she was driving drunk. She warns her dad to stay away from her and storms out. After having Grace, her mother was arrested for all sorts of DUI incidents. A few said it might be Grace (played by Skyler Samuels). “I’ve always tried to protect you!”. Chanel points out that that isn’t a thing. She’s still not scary. And I’m not talking about when it comes to Grace accusing people of being serial killers. “Kappa is the mom neither of us ever had!” Chanel spilled a bit of gossip about her family tree with Grace as a way to bond the KKT sisterhood. Chanel does seem genuine by the end, and a Chanel with layers is frankly the only Chanel that interests me. I’m more interested in discovering just how much of Gigi’s baloney Weston is buying and if Zayday and Denise will ever wise-up to the mantel of stereotype that’s been foisted upon them.
