Screenwriter Daniel Gerson Dies At 49
Daniel Gerson, co-writer of several Disney/Pixar movies, including Monsters, Inc.
Gerson’s family said in a statement that he died at his Los Angeles home on Saturday after battling brain cancer. They also co-wrote 2014’s Big Hero 6, which nabbed the animated feature Oscar.
Gerson was born in 1966 in New York City.
Gerson and Andrew Stanton wrote the script for the 2001 Pixar film Monsters, Inc.
Gerson was working on Cars 3 when he passed away. A memorial service will take place in Los Angeles.
He also assisted on features including Chicken Little, Curious George, Cars, Meet The Robinsons. He even voiced the incredulous police sergeant in Big Hero 6.
“We had never written a prequel, and when we looked at the prequels out there, there weren’t that many, and the ones that were out there weren’t great”, Gerson, a BAFTA award victor and three-time Annie Award nominee, said in a 2013 interview.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Beau Stacom, their two children, his parents and his sister.
