SDCC Report: Colin Trevorrow To Helm ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’
As reported by Heroic Hollywood, the Star Wars panel at Comic-Con will feature a surprise announcement that Colin Trevorrow is directing Star Wars Episode 9. Is this a rumor that Umberto Gonzalez may actually get right?
Will LucasFilm have anything left to say by the time they take to the Hall H stage at Comic Con today?
And while Lucasfilm’s Star Wars team has preached a return to practical effects, it can’t hurt that Trevorrow has tackled a movie dominated by special effects. When it was later announced that Rian Johnson would be assuming directorial duties for Episode VIII, it might have been assumed that the middle chapter was on autopilot as Abrams talents were utilized elsewhere in the ever-expanding franchise; possibly helping develop the spinoff films. In other words, I have no idea what Trevorrow’s actual voice is, but he’s proven himself capable of playing nice with a studio and turning in an on-budget, crowd-pleasingly predictable, four-quadrant adventure film.
As aforementioned, Disney must have seen Jurassic World and liked what Colin Trevorrow did with the film.
Another film that got dropped on us two years ago that is going to dominate Comic-Con is Star Wars Episode 7, but why stop with just one film?
By “Boba Fett” one, Trevorrow was referring to the rumors of the Star Wars Anthology movie that was to be directed by Josh Trank. I think he is a truly, truly great filmmaker. Donnie Yen has reportedly been invited to star in a substantial role as a Jedi knight who works together with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to battle (a supposedly resurrected) Darth Vader.
Mostly, I’m just happy that Disney chose to hire a different director for each installment in the sequel trilogy.
