Seahawks’ Derrick Coleman to be released from jail; investigation ongoing
Coleman, 24, was booked into the downtown Seattle jail on investigation of vehicular assault and hit and run.
The King County Prosecutor said the investigation could take a month, including the wait for toxicology results. Police officers in the Seattlesuburb of Bellevue said they arrested him because he left the scene of the two-car accident Wednesday evening. “Today’s first court appearance has been stricken from this afternoon’s calendar at the jail”. Or the Seahawks could learn enough before that to justify to themselves reinstating him off their suspended-exempt list at any time. Coach Pete Carroll didn’t discuss the specifics of the situation when he joined KIRO Radio 97.3 FM Friday but he said the team expects to “figure out what this is all about in probably the days to come”.
“Seattle Seahawk Derrick Coleman is being released from jail pending ongoing investigation”. While the facts of the case are still being determined, it seems Derrick may have fallen asleep while driving home from a Seahawks’ facility. It’s shocking behavior that’s “absolutely out of character for who he is and how he would normally respond to a situation like that”, Coleman’s attorney, Stephen Hayne said.
Officers found Coleman two blocks from the crash within four minutes based on the descriptions from witnesses. Coleman, who is hearing impaired, has played the past three seasons in Seattle. Coleman missed 11 games and the playoffs last season because of a broken foot. He has been featured in TV commercials and has written a book that was released this year.
