Seahawks get injury scare, beat Romo-less Cowboys 13-12
I think our players were very concerned; our coaches were concerned, I certainly was concerned.
Among the millions watching the Seattle Dallas game Sunday was orthopedic surgeon Dr. Carlo Bellabarba, who like many others, looked for signs of the severity of the injury.
Lockette collapsed to the field after a high-speed helmet-to-helmet collision with Cowboys safety Jeff Heath. I’m too busy trying to break it up, trying to get our players back. I thought [Cowboys coach] Jason Garrett could have done a better job on that.
The Seahawks announced Monday that Lockette will undergo neck surgery to fix ligament damage at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. “That’s what [Seahawks head coach] Pete Carroll would have done”, Bennett said (via ESPN).
Restless Cowboys fans stayed on the edge of their seats for the remainder of the contest, knowing it would be next to impossible to prevent another Seattle score. “They (officials) just didn’t see that”.
NO OFFENSE: Dallas had to settle for the last of Dan Bailey’s four field goals and a 12-10 lead after defensive end Greg Hardy put the Cowboys at the Seattle 16 by tipping a pass from Wilson and intercepting it – the first takeaway in five games for Dallas.
Seattle didn’t get a touchdown, but Hauschka’s kick came about a minute later than it would have without the critical conversion from Wilson, the NFL’s top rushing quarterback who was outgained on the ground with 32 yards to Cassel’s 43. The Seahawks called a timeout prior to Bailey’s attempt. Obviously, the snap did not happen. “And just starting talking to us, saying ‘Do it for me, Russ'”. Later in the fourth quarter, Dallas’ David Irving blocked Seattle’s 47-yard field goal attempt with 8:59 to play.
Matt Cassel will get all first-team reps in advance of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles and the November 15 matchup at Tampa Bay before Romo returns against the Miami Dolphins November 22. A few will say that one play can not affect the outcome of a game, well just ask the Seahawks about how the Superbowl last season turned out because of “one play”.
Recovery from such a surgery could take three months or more for a normal person, even longer for a professional football player. “He had a sore neck and we’ll figure out what that all means, but we’re grateful that he was able to bounce out from that and be pretty positive about it right now as we hear from him”, the coach added in its website.
