Seahawks keeping things interesting against Cardinals
Blitzes. Fumbles. Touchdowns. At every turn in the second half, the Cardinals had to fend off the Seahawks while their offensive line tried to figure out life without left guard Mike Iupati, who left the field in an ambulance late in the first half because of a neck injury.
Mike plays as the Arizona Cardinals’ guard.
The Cardinals defense forced Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson into a first-half safety and an interception to build a 22-7 halftime lead.
They ran a delayed handoff to Andre Ellington, who sprinted down the Cardinals sideline for the touchdown.
Palmer finished the game with 363 yards passing – the most the Seahawks have allowed this season – with three touchdowns and an interception on 29-for-48 passing.
Things went from bad to worse after the free kick, as the Cardinals drove down the field before Carson Palmer hit Michael Floyd for a 27-yard touchdown and a 12-0 lead. Officials ruled an incomplete pass instead, a ruling the replay booth upheld after an inexcusably long delay in reviewing the play and forcing Seattle to call its final time out of the half to do it.
After that reprieve, Arizona increased its lead to 22-7 on Chandler Cantanzaro’s 43-yard field goal as the half ended.
The stadium was still ringing with hometown boos when Paul Richardson sped down the left sideline for a 40-yard catch in his 2015 season debut.
That gave the Cardinals a 25-10 lead with 6:29 left in the quarter. Will they finish the Seahawks off?
– First Kevin Minter, then Frostee Rucker and the Cardinals are the only defense in the National Football League with two safeties this season.
The Cardinals had no trouble moving the ball, at least in the first half.
That gave the Cardinals a 19-0 lead with 4:02 left, and that crowd of 69,005 at CenturyLink, the NFL’s loudest venue, was quiet. Both times, it was Palmer throwing touchdowns to Floyd; 27 and 34 yards, respectively. Iupati was placed on a backboard and loaded immediately into a Seattle Fire Department rescue vehicle that had been driven on to the field. About 9 minutes and 16 seconds were remaining in the second quarter at that point in the game.
Iupati had feeling and at CT scan and an MRI came back normal. Iupati was pulling on the play and lowered his head and he collided with Seattle’s Kam Chancellor.
