Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls leaves with ankle injury vs Ravens

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a crushing blow this Sunday during their game with the Baltimore Ravens when they lost their primary backup running back Thomas Rawls to a broken ankle along with several torn ligaments.

An effective running game is crucial for any team’s playoff run.

BALTIMORE (AP) – As long as Russell Wilson continues to fling touchdown passes at a dizzying rate, the Seattle Seahawks just might survive their alarming shortage of running backs.

Wilson threw five touchdowns with no interceptions, making it 16 (out of 26 this season) without getting intercepted once during the four-game win streak, in the 35-6 win over the now officially out of the playoffs Baltimore Ravens. The Seahawks haven’t allowed 60 yards rushing or more in any of the last four games.

The duo has connected for 321 yards and eight touchdowns in the past three weeks, including scoring strikes of 14, 22 and 16 yards Sunday. He hooked up with receiver Doug Baldwin for three touchdowns and rookie Tyler Lockett for two more.

Carroll said of re-signing Brown: “It’s a good opportunity to bring a guy back that we have been training that we liked the work that he did”. Most of the touchdowns just came on Wilson having time to sit in the pocket and wait for someone to get free rather than the coverage just being bad outright, though that happened a bit as well. “It’s not as good as we need to be and I will take responsibility for that”.

RAWLS ROYCE: Lost in the performance by Wilson last week was yet another 100-yard rushing day from rookie Thomas Rawls, who finished with 101 yards on 19 carries.

Marshawn Lynch, who was their No. running back, was already out.

Harbaugh says, “We’re going through a painful, tough season….” He has thrown for at least 200 yards and a touchdown in all 13 games this season. The Seahawks are tied the Vikings in the wild-card standings. Playing for injured Matt Schaub, he became the third quarterback to start for the Ravens.

We’ll see how much action he gets. Notably, each of those players went on to win the MVP in their respective year. He is completing 75.4 percent of his passes, with 9.9 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 145.8. That made for an 86-yard drive in nine plays.

“He is playing unbelievable”, Baldwin said about Wilson. His fumble on Sunday hurts his stock right now, but he can still get some yards for this Seahawks team that is showcasing an efficient passing game. Carroll said Chancellor was “really uncomfortable” due to the injury and never felt able to return.

In the third quarter, Pete Carroll’s men took control of the contest as Wilson found Baldwin for the second time in the match with a pass over the middle to extend their lead to 15 points. Sunday was the second time this year that the Seahawks beat Jimmy Clausen.

“Two totally different game plans, but going up against their defense was like a conference game, seeing the same team twice”, Clausen said.
