Seahawks Release WR Kevin Norwood
The Panthers acquired second-year wide receiver Kevin Norwood in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. While the Panthers likely brought him aboard to provide the team with depth at what has become a very shaky position this summer, Norwood could carve himself a bigger role with Carolina before the regular season opens.
The Houston Chronicle first reported the trade. Seattle is down to 75 after a series of moves Monday, and same is the case for Carolina.
Releasing Norwood now could be a sign that the team wants to get a longer look this week at some of the other younger receivers on its roster battling for a spot, such as former Washington Huskies Kevin Smith and Kasen Williams. Schneider went on to cite Norwood’s penchant for making clutch and contested catches at Alabama as traits Seattle saw in him. He was inactive for several games – including the Super Bowl – even when he was healthy. He played in nine games for the Seahawks as a rookie, making two starts and racking up 102 yards on nine receptions.
We’ll continue to update throughout the day if more cuts are made. Those include defensive end E.J. Wilson (2010), wide receiver Kris Durham (2011), defensive tackle Jaye Howard (2012), wide receiver Chris Harper (2013) and now Norwood.
