Sean Dyche: ‘Burnley have moved forward this season’
Chelsea trail Spurs by five points with just four games remaining but the win kept alive their slim hopes of a late push for the final Champions League slot.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is expected to make changes to the Chelsea starting lineup ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup Semi-Final against Southampton.
Four of Sean Dyche’s squad – Tom Heaton, Nick Pope, James Tarkowski and Jack Cork – have been involved with England this season, but Pope and Tarkowski are the two most likely to make it on the plane to Russian Federation.
Conte praised the way his two strikers played together.
Speaking to Sky Sports immediately after the game, goalscorer Moses said: ‘I thought we deserved the three points today from start to finish.
“It was 3-0 at half-time and I think a lot of the lads couldn’t believe what was going on”. Tottenham drew with Brighton on Tuesday so now we have a great opportunity to close the gap.
“A more confident centre-forward takes his first chance a bit earlier, the second is more of a half chance – the keeper has done well to close him down – but the third one he gives Pope a chance”.
Pope was helpless as Chelsea took the lead in the 20th minute, though, the goalkeeper touching on a Moses cross that deflected into his net off defender Long. My goal in life is to one day write a Batman screenplay.
Pedro failed to keep his shot down in the 16th minute after being teed up by Giroud, who played his part in the opener just four minutes later.
Burnley Playing XI: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Long, Ward; Lennon, Cork, Westwood, Gudmundsson; Barnes, Wood.
However, Burnley’s joy was short-lived as Chelsea restored their lead five minutes later as Emerson’s cross found Moses, who drilled a low effort past Pope.
At the other end, Alex McCarthy also made a smart stop from Jamie Vardy as Southampton at least stopped a run of four straight league defeats.
“It’s a quick turnaround to Sunday and a few of the boys looked a bit exhausted and leggy out there so we’ll probably freshen it up and make changes”.
