Search continues for Carol Stream woman missing in Lake Michigan
By the afternoon, Chase’s parents, Greg and Beth Froese, seemed to have accepted the fact that their daughter may no longer be alive and are relying on their faith to get them through it.
A woman was still missing off Porter Beach in Lake Michigan as darkness fell Friday night after two of her companions were rescued from high waves. The search continued into Friday evening and resumed shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday with a Coast Guard helicopter and boats. Two of the swimmers were safely rescued and brought to shore while the third swimmer disappeared from sight.
The Indiana conservation officers, along with the U.S. Coast Guard and Portage Fire Department, conducted shore- and surface-based searches into the late hours, Brock said. Sonar and video capable vehicles were dispatched to the area but had to be called off once lake conditions began to deteriorate.
Froese’s family was near the Indiana conservation officers’ command center in the Indiana Dunes Beach west parking lot. Officials said they may have gotten caught in a rip tide.
