Search in Dundalk for teen missing since 1997
THE SEARCH FOR Ciara Breen, the teenager who went missing in 1997, is set to resume this morning.
An only child, she was 17-years-old at the time of her disappearance.
Ciara Breen, 17, vanished from her Bachelor’s Walk home in the Co Louth town, where she lived with her mother Bernadette, in the early hours of February 13, 1997.
“The search is being carried out by the Dundalk search team, assisted by the sub aqua (unit) and also members from the (Garda) Technical Bureau”.
The team battled through horrendous conditions yesterday as they tried to find anything which could solve the mystery of her disappearance, the Irish Mirror reports.
A renewed appeal for Ciara was issued late last year by gardaí after two potential witnesses came forward and spoke to detectives about the case.
Superintendent Gerry Curley of Dundalk explains where the search is taking place.
They have been focusing on an area called Balmer’s Bog, a marshland just off the Ardee Road.
Ciara was 17 when she disappeared.
She left her house that night to meet a man double her age.
In April, a man in his 50s from Dundalk was arrested but later released without charge and a file sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Pat Marry thanked those who have helped with the investigation and appealed for anyone who may have further information to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042-9388400, the Garda confidential line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda station.
