Search on for woman who fell overboard during Mad Decent boat party
Just before midnight local time, Norwegian Cruise Lines issued the following statement: “On Thursday, November 12 during a chartered cruise on Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel”.
The Mad Decent Boat Party was taking place on the ship. It has been almost 16 hours since the incident, and in an interview with NBC Miami, the Coast Guard said they’ve searched over 600 square nautical miles. “Our hearts go out to the family and all involved in this incident, and we will continue to support those affected during this hard time”.
The music has been brought to a halt, and the boat is now heading back to the coordinates closest to where the woman was last seen onboard.
The Coast Guard sent a C-130 airplane and a cutter boat to search for the woman, but as of yet, she has not been found.
Latest update the U.S. Coast guard is taking over then we are turning back around to Miami.
According to tweets from passenger Ze Sus, the ship immediately turned around and launched a pair of lifeboats to initiate the search, with a third launching shortly after. The “Shipstagram” from the Mad Decent Boat Party shows photos of folks enjoying the cruise or preparing to enjoy it, likely prior to news about the woman going overboard occurred.
The annual event, hosted by Diplo’s record label, was slated to feature sets from the DJ, Skrillex, Dillon Francis, A-Trak and Major Lazer.
