Searchers find body of missing 5-year-old boy in Arizona
The campsite, in the Kaibab National Forest, was 12 miles south of Jacob Lake near Arizona Route 67.
Coconino County sheriff’s officials say the body was located Monday.
Authorities in Coconino County endured heavy rainfall Monday in the continuing search for a 5-year-old boy who vanished Thursday afternoon near Jacob Lake in northern Arizona.
According to police, she and her son were camping with 15 to 20 other friends and family members when she realized the boy was missing.
The search for Jerald Joseph Williams of Colorado City began Thursday after his relatives reported that he couldn’t be found.
The boy, who is from Colorado City, Arizona, is a member of a Fundementalist LDS community.
The search has been aided by military helicopters equipped with night vision equipment, ground crews with dogs and ATVs, and numerous volunteers from Williams’ hometown.
Authorities said earlier that there were no signs of an abduction or foul play and noted that the boy’s parents were devastated by the disappearance and remained involved throughout the search. The child was reportedly chasing grasshoppers when his mother lost sight of him.
“We don’t get an immediate call because [families] think they can find [the child]”, he said.
