Seattle releases veteran Browner among 6 roster moves
Brandon Browner’s Legion of Boom reunion tour is over. Browner totaled 10 interceptions and three forced fumbles over his three seasons with the Seahawks.
Browner signed a one-year, $760,000 deal back in the spring, but the contract contained no guaranteed money.
He caught on with the New Orleans Saints for the 2015 season, and he was arguably football’s single most-damaging defensive player.
Meanwhile, other options emerged at safety for the Seahawks such as undrafted free agent Tyvis Powell.
The Seattle Seahawks released veteran defensive back Brandon Browner among six roster moves made by the team Monday. He played for the Seahawks from 2011-13 and was a member of the Super Bowl champions following the 2013 season, although he did not play in the 43-8 victory over Denver in the title game. Browner led the league with 24 penalties as the Saints allowed a league-record 45 touchdown passes.
Browner’s only preseason statistics were two tackles, apparently the last two he will make as a Seahawk.
But a week later, the Seahawks have chose to end the experiment before the final preseason game has been played. But with the move of Justin Britt to center and the solid play of backup Joey Hunt in the preseason, Lewis became expendable.
The Seahawks were attempting to switch the 32-year-old Browner from cornerback to safety.
The release comes as National Football League teams trim their rosters from 90 to 75 players before the Tuesday deadline.
