Seattle’s Nelson Cruz not in starting line-up today following neck spasms

Iwakuma threw a total of 116 pitches earning the win and improving to 4-2 on the year, striking out seven and only allowing three base runners which were walks. Per CBS Sports, Lough’s pop-up in the ninth was particularly tricky and it took a great play from Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager to keep things on track for Iwakuma. Manny Machado grounded to third for the second out and Gerardo Parra flied to center for the final out.

Iwakuma is the second Japanese-born pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the Major League Baseball, after Hideo Nomo.

The Orioles had not been no-hit since September 1, 2007 when Boston’s Clay Buchholz did it at Fenway Park.

Iwakuma also walked Jonathan Schoop on a check-swing, full-count pitch to open the eighth inning. “Just focusing on one hitter at a time and I’m glad I got it done”. Seattle’s Hisashi Iwakuma has missed two months of the 2015 campaign, and in the ten games he has started, he’s sporting a 4.41 ERA.

Iwakuma threw 20 of 29 first-pitch strikes. Iwakuma escaped that jam with a two-out strikeout of Jimmy Paredes. He then fanned Ryan Flaherty before getting catcher Caleb Joseph to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

Iwakuma didn’t get a ton of offensive help but it wasn’t needed.

Tillman was struck on the back of his right arm by a line drive off the bat of Robinson Cano in the first inning.

In Cleveland, Michael Brantley’s RBI single with one out in the 16th inning lifted Cleveland to a victory over skidding New York, who lost their fourth straight and had its lead in the AL East over Toronto trimmed to a half-game.

The Seattle Mariners have dealt with a tough and disappointing season. Seattle DH Nelson Cruz (stiff neck) was held out of Wednesday’s game but should be available when the Mariners return to action Friday….

The Orioles, who own an ugly 25-36 road record this season, headed back east looking forward to coming home for a 10-game homestand at Camden Yards and putting Wednesday’s game out of their minds.
