Second chance: Chip Kelly named 49ers head coach

The 49ers signed Kaepernick in a record $126 million, seven-year deal, of which $61 million is guaranteed.

Count me as a believer that Chip Kelly will get it done in his second go-around, with the San Francisco 49ers, because he’s one of the most intelligent and pragmatic people I’ve been around.

There are theories but little hard evidence to indicate why the Philadelphia Eagles fired Chip Kelly three seasons into a five-year contract. Assistant head coach/defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro also figures to join Kelly, though that hasn’t been officially confirmed.

This season’s search centered on finding an offensive maestro.

Today, those 49ers hired Kelly as their next head coach.

The Philadelphia Eagles will hire former quarterback and assistant coach Doug Pederson as head coach in a nod by owner Jeffrey Lurie to the success and environment that the team had under Andy Reid.

The 52-year-old’s relationship with the front office faltered, and that eventually led to his firing days before the season finale with the Eagles 6-9 on the season.

While fans are excited over heavyweight Kelly’s appointment, Kaepernick is the happiest guy in the roster.

“You can’t trick players or pretend to be someone you’re not if the results aren’t there”, Boykin told the Pittsburgh Tribune.

Before the 2015 season, when Kelly was coaching the Eagles, he inquired about landing Kaepernick in a trade, according to a league source. But he has to know that the players have to be onboard with him. Upon being escorted out of the NovaCare Complex in Howie Roseman’s last move as Eagles emperor before his power was usurped by the Kelly coup last January, Gamble headed west and accepted the 49ers’ job as senior personnel executive. In a statement Kelly released last week upon his dismissal, he concluded by saying: “Life is all about responding to challenges and seizing opportunities”.

“They have some decisions to make at some key positions, quarterback being the main one”, Kiper added. The Bee’s Matt Barrows reports Kelly’s hiring could mean a San Francisco comeback for Kaepernick. That experiment failed miserably as Kelly ended his tenure in the City of Brotherly Love with just six wins. This season they allowed the 28th-most points.

Kelly parlayed his offensive success at OR into his first National Football League gig three years ago with the Eagles. Police who went to his house said it smelled like burning marijuana.

“I like it because the system is exactly like the West Coast”, Craig said in a phone interview”.

Baalke expressed eagerness to collaborate with Kelly on reviving the squad.

Kelly won’t be introduced in a news conference until next week based on schedules. Koetter has had many stops in his career, including at Missouri as offensive coordinator from 1989-1993. Any evidence of Kelly being successful as purely a team’s head coach could be his 46-7 overall record during his time coaching the Oregon Ducks and Marcus Mariota, whom has the same playing style as Kaepernick.
