Second explosive thrown in Bangkok after bomb killed 22
Travel advice issued by the British Foreign Office said: “Local police have confirmed a bomb explosion at 7pm on 17 August 2015 at the Ratchprasong intersection next to the Erawan Shrine in central Bangkok”.
Bangkok is a city on edge after Monday night’s bomb attack, described by junta chief Prayut Chan-O-Cha as the “worst ever attack” on Thailand.
Video shows a device landing in the river near the pier, sending water shooting into the air as tourists scramble to get out of the way. At the time of the incident tourists were lined up to take boat tours. It comes just hours after a separate device was thrown from a bridge into the Chao Phraya River.
It’s in walking distance to the Bangkok Skytrain, the Wat Suan Plu Temple, the Shangri La Hotel, The Marriott and many other tourist spots.
Reports indicate the first device was a hand grenade. No injuries have been reported. However, it missed its intended target and fell into the river below, before exploding beneath the surface.
