Second-tier in GOP need to skip Iowa, go home
Earlier in the evening, Trump told the crowd that the Washington Post came out with a “big story” (really, an op-ed) that day: “Ted Cruz is not eligible to be president”.
It didn’t stay in Vegas.
24 volunteers for one phonebank is respectable (seven isn’t bad, either), but bear in mind that these numbers are coming out of these candidates’ state headquarters. As Bush has polled among the lowest of those candidates participating in the main stage debate, his position is on the outer corners of the debate stage, no longer directly next to Trump, the front-runner, as he once was.
Such a confrontation could benefit Rubio, who presents himself as an appealing alternative to Trump and Cruz for the wide swath of undecided Republican voters in Iowa. That’s especially true if you assume voters who continue to support Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, and the rest are more favorably disposed to Trump and Cruz than to Rubio or anyone else in the “establishment lane”. Rick Santorum said Cruz’s eligibility “is not settled law”.
Cruz. He’s been slipping, rattled by questions about whether his birth in Canada disqualifies him from the presidency. Cruz will highlight his cultural conservatism for those Southern voters, and will likely raise the “religious liberty” issue, like he did when he publicly embraced the county clerk in Kentucky, Kim Davis, last year.
The revelation nonetheless provides an opening for Cruz’s opponents to claim he was seeking the assistance of Wall Street banks while railing against them on the stump.
Eric Herzik, a political science professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, said he wasn’t surprised by Trump’s attacks on Cruz. “All he did was borrow against assets he already had, which is a very common device”. Things are different than they used to be and there here’s why. “Maybe not Marco Rubio“, added Jones, referring to Cruz’s GOP rival whose financial troubles have been well known.
Republicans have one more debate scheduled before voting begins in Iowa, a January 28 event in Des Moines. Shy away from being attacked by Trump and talk only about issues that the public is interested in which is corruption in government and industry, gun control, and other issues.
Cruz said on Tuesday that Trump “embodies NY values”, in a not-so-thinly veiled shot at The Donald’s conservative credentials. Cruz swiped at Trump again when asked Wednesday night about the billionaire’s persistent questions about his citizenship.

Will Trump Take on Cruz? Trump says he’ll make Cruz’s citizenship a key issue in the debate. And that the best way to be the “not Trump” candidate is to be seen as the one willing to take the fight to him most aggressively.
Republican presidential candidate Sen. “When you have 60 percent of people that are undecided, it’s still a game in play for a lot of people”.
Thursday’s debate – in North Charleston, S.C. – is the Republicans’ sixth overall debate, their first one of 2016, and their next-to-last one before the February 1 Iowa caucuses. And I think that’s got the Hillary folks a little bit concerned. William Blackstone, the great English jurist, had written in 1765 that, thanks to acts of Parliament, “all children, born out of the king’s ligeance, whose fathers were natural-born subjects, are now natural-born subjects themselves, to all intents and purposes, without any exception; unless their said fathers were attainted, or banished beyond sea, for high treason; or were then in the service of a prince at enmity with Great Britain”.
