Second video surfaces of Okafor fight outside Boston club
Okafor will miss Wednesday night’s game at the Knicks and Saturday’s home contest against the Nuggets. It’s unclear if Okafor, or someone in his group, knocked down the man. The person filming the video tells the man on the ground that he needs an ambulance.
Okafor was able to break free and threw punches at the guy that ended in a street fight.
Coach Brett Brown had spoken to Okafor after the release of the first video on TMZ showed him fighting in Boston the night of a loss to the Celtics last month.
Earlier today, the Sixers announced that they have suspended rookie center Jahlil Okafor for two games. The human being behind the allegations does now notwould like todisclose his I.D. – still his lawyer Michelle Newton tells TMZ Sports he is a 27-year-old executive assistant who lives in Boston. As far as the play-by-play of what happened, he did not go into that.
Not realistically, but don’t be surprised when we start to see more and more of his name mentioned OUTSIDE the lines on the court. “And I think because of the competitive nature, things have happened to Jahlil”. The people around Okafor are giving him a personal body guard and hopefully that will keep him out of trouble. More recently, he was stopped by police after reaching a speed of 108 miles per hour while driving over a bridge in that city. “There have been mistakes that have been made, he does own it”, Brown rued. “Nobody is taking this anything else but extremely serious”. This is the second incident for Okafor who was involved in another altercation where a fan pointed a gun at him. He was not served, according to the sources. “He doesn’t have a fake ID”. For someone selected to be the face of a struggling franchise, Okafor has so far created more problems for his new bosses than he has solved. “Make him learn from it, but don’t characterize him based on that”.
“The infrastructure we have in place is highly professional and accountable”, Brown said. “We show him tough love that we understand he’s ours. We’re behind him in everything and we are going to continue to be behind him and can’t wait to get him back on the court”.
Sixers GM Sam Hinkie declined to comment on the Okafor situation when approached by reporters Tuesday and Wednesday. “This is my third year in the club and we haven’t had an incident like this”.
Again, Woj may not have revealed the reason for the two-game suspension, but it’s clear that the 76ers want to let Okafor know that they won’t tolerate this, regardless of the fact that he’s not quite 20 years old yet.
“Look, Jah is one of the great kids ever”.
