Secular blogger killed in Bangladesh, in fourth such attack this year
Earlier this year they killed the three secular bloggers on the street.
Police in Dhaka told reporters the assailants nearly severed the victim’s neck with sharp weapons to ensure he was dead.
The U.S. State Department condemned it as a “cowardly murder“.
Amnesty worldwide urged Bangladesh to send a strong message that killings aimed at silencing dissenting voices were despicable and would not be tolerated.
The UN Special Rapporteurs on freedom of expression and extra judicial executions, David Kaye and Christof Heyns called for a prompt and thorough investigation into the recent murders of bloggers. His wife was at home at the time but was confined to another room while the murder took place.
Dhaka Police spokesman, Muntashirul Islam, said, “We know that Niloy used to work for non-governmental organisations in the past but we are not aware of his journalistic identity”.
“Most of the cases have not been resolved”, the committee said.
