Security Extra Tight At ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Movie Premiere In Downtown LA
The actors made a rap album together.
The campaign launched with a spot in February’s Grammy Awards featuring Dr. Dre and Ice Cube revisiting their hometown of Compton as an introduction to the first trailer. “I find the cops up here a little more understanding and willing to talk”. “It speaks to everything that’s going on in our country”. Eventually, Dre drifted away from the WCWC to work with an old friend and former drug dealer, Eazy-E, who was mounting Ruthless Records, and gave up the sequined, glam-ified looks and sensual rhymes. He spent more than a month preparing for the role with Cube collaborator Dub-C.
“I did a lot of homework”, Gray explains.
His transformation wowed his co-stars. All this makes “Real Muthaphuckkin’ G’s” one of the all-time-classic “studio gangster”-ragging diss tracks in hip-hop history”.
“When we saw that everybody started texting each other”, Corey Hawkins, who plays Dr. Dre, told ET.
“I’m the guy coming from Juilliard”.
The rapper told Beats 1 “I’ve been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn’t quite figure out what it was”.
You know, I don’t know what they’re gonna say. You can also listen via iTunes if that suits your fancy.
Dre, still among the world’s most influential musicians, released a surprise album last week, his first in 16 years.
“This opportunity just kind of opened my world”, Hawkins said.
O’Shea Jackson Jr.: The only thing that would be remote to that would be the lingo of the ’80s, just the things that they said that were “in”. As far as real-life stories go, the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has some of the most uncanny casting we’ve ever seen. “So we had to hold each other accountable”. Unseen is Dre’s assault of TV personality Dee Barnes, whom he was convicted of repeatedly slamming against a brick wall. The upbeat, raucous sound of Straight Outta Compton is subbed out for the laid-back side-stick-snares and slinky synth leads of the “G-Funk” style that would rise to prominence on the backs of Dre’s 1992 The Chronic and his protégé Snoop Doggy Dogg’s Doggystyle of the following year.
Jackson was already a rapper: He started performing with his dad, to whom he bears an uncanny resemblance, when he was 18. “It was just the acting chops”.
“Personally, I don’t really have that much animosity toward Jerry Heller”.
For Jackson, the opportunity was enticing and intimidating.
Warners has a close relationship with Ritchie, director of the studio’s Sherlock Holmes franchise. You don’t have to worry about pulling over a 6-4 Impala and it’s got an AK-47 in the trunk and two kilos of coke or whatever, and all of a sudden they’re going to defend that with their lives. But “Straight Outta Compton” was not an easy film to get off the ground, and after Warner Brothers declined to make it, Universal Pictures grabbed it. The film was ultimately produced by Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Woods-Wright- each with their own memories of the past and hopes for what the film would be.
