Security scare at Sydney Boys High
A SEARCH is underway for a man who sparked a lockdown at Sydney Boys High School.
The school was briefly placed into lockdown after a man was spoken to by a member of staff at the school on Cleveland Street at Moore Park.
Approximately 1200 students attend the school.
“There was no weapon sighted, there was no interaction with any of the students, there was nobody harmed”, Inspector Peter Eastman told reporters, adding the lockdown was a precaution.
There are unconfirmed reports that two men with bags have been taken into custody by tactical response teams.
The alarm was raised about 2.20pm today after a school staff member spoke to the man, who was carrying a grey shopping bag, and became concerned by his behaviour.
Students were evacuated to a nearby oval but were allowed to return to their classrooms about 3pm. Police from Surry Hills Local Area Command continue to search for him.
The man was described as being 20-years-old and 175cm tall with short dark hair.
There were earlier reports that the man had been carrying a gun.
Sydney Girls High School, which shares some ground with its brother school, was not affected.
Cleveland Street between Anzac Parade and South Dowling Street was closed in both directions with buses being diverted from the area.
