Declared the “monarch of mountains” by Lord Byron, the Mont Blanc massif is shrouded in mystery, rolling clouds and imposing snowfields.
The adventure was meant to create a digital record of Mont Blanc, which is receding because of climate change.
Google has made it possible to visit one of Europe’s most storied peaks from the comfort of your computer.
The Google imagery includes running on the mountain with Kilian Jornet, holder of a speed record for ascending and descending Mont Blanc in four hours 57 minutes.
Google Street View users can even race through the snowy trek with 14-time ski mountaineering champion Laetitia Roux or feel the thrill of flying through the air with free skier Candide Thovex.
The team behind Google Street View has been getting some increasingly breathtaking locations to show up on their service. We are talking about being 15,777 feet high; making it covered in a perpetual snow-and-ice.
The global company partnered with world-renowned alpine photographers, skiers, mountaineers, climbers and runners to build up a database of 360-degree images from the mountain and the unbelievable photos are now available to view online.
Legendary mountain climber Ueli Steck climbed some of the mountain’s most hard routes and natural cathedral-like peaks to capture images and also features in the images.
Street View images, which cover most public roads in the United States of America, along with some hiking trails and the El Capitan climbing wall in Yosemite National Park, give a 360-degree view of an area.
