SEIU endorses Clinton for president
“Everybody knows that”, Sanders said. Bernie Sanders put Clinton on the defensive when he said Wall Street had been the major contributor to her campaigns.
“I don’t know about you, but I’d be a little concerned about turning it over to Greg Abbott”, Clinton said in one of several references to the Texas governor.
Clinton ultimately used a few form of the word terrorist, jihadist, or extremist 15 times, compared to three times for Sanders, who spent much of his opening statement railing against the “rigged economy”, and once for O’Malley.
Clinton & Co. clearly thought they’d found a way to spin cordiality with downtown financiers as something positive for the public – and thus counter suspicions she’d be susceptible as president to what detractors see as excessive Wall Street clout.
“It’s clear that she had real relationships with people on Wall Street and she did spend a lot of time-I certainly saw it with my own eyes-she did spend a lot of time with people in lower Manhattan, including the financial community, after 9/11 working together”, Mr.de Blasio, who managed Ms. Clinton’s first Senate campaign, told the Observer.
Speaking at a college here, Sanders pointed to areas where he disagrees with Clinton – including financial regulation and health care – and charged that her roster of political endorsements makes her “a candidate of the establishment”.
“I think she’s got a strong record on Wall Street reform”.
Sanders had ripped Clinton during the second Democratic debate last week for her ties to Wall Street.
“She’s saying ‘don’t question me for the money I’ve taken on my campaign because they donated on 9/11.’ That’s ridiculous”, said Riches.
“We need a person whose values align with ours…who’s going to fight for what we believe in”, one woman said.
Both Sanders and ex-Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley support reinstating the Glass-Steagall law which once separated commercial and investment banking but was repealed in 1999 under her husband, President Bill Clinton. The former secretary of state remains the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, with 56 percent support to 31 percent for Sanders in a five-day rolling poll by Reuters/IPSOS dated November 13.
HILLARY CLINTON: Attacking Paris, the city of light, reminds us that there is no middle ground in going after these terrorists.
“It could launch her forward because she has the experience of Secretary of State”, he said.
Rodney Muhammad, an SEIU 1199 member in MA, echoed the contrasts between Clinton and Sanders that are often mentioned by Labor for Bernie supporters. I don’t think they’re gaining strength. My proposal is tougher, more effective, and more comprehensive because I go after all of Wall Street not just the big banks.
Now that she has secured the SEIU, Ms Clinton can count on the support of 9.5 million unionised workers out of 14.6 million in the United States.
