Selena Gomez: ‘I’ve Been Going Through Chemo’
Selena Gomez finally confirms she battled lupus during the time she canceled her tour in 2013 and 2014.
The move, followed by a stint at an Arizona rehabilitation facility, generated tabloid rumours of struggles with pills, alcohol, or even difficulties over her breakup with pop star Justin Bieber, which Gomez told Billboard angered her.
Gomez added that she wanted “so badly” to address the people who made assumptions about her hiatus because they had no idea what she was really going through. “I’m in chemotherapy, ‘” she said. However she also credits her critics as a driving force for this album saying, “The hate motivated me”.
She stated despite the fact that she had been working since she was seven years old and became a UNICEF ambassador at 17, she became a “tabloid story”. “I’ve never been body-shamed before”, Selena Gomez said on “On Air With Ryan Secrest”.
Another source of help for Selena is her friend Taylor Swift.
The “Good For You” singer confirmed recently that she was diagnosed with lupus and was on chemotherapy in 2013.
Lupus causes the human body to attack healthy tissue as it is unable to distinguish the source of virus.
Symptoms can include fever, a “butterfly” shaped rash on the face, hair loss, fatigue and painful joints.
The disease is now treated by prescription, and by chemotherapy is created to suppress the action of the immune system.
“This was the first year I ever dealt with anyone talking about my body”, Gomez told the magazine. “When somebody else has your self-esteem in their hands…” “It’s pulling me out of my shell”, Gomez said.
She also shut down the interviewer when asked if she takes any inspiration from his “career evolution”, responding, “No. This is my time”.
