Selfie from black man stopped by white police officer encourages #Respect
In a follow-up posting, Greg Barnes Jr. thanked everyone who reached out to him in response to the viral selfie with the officer.
Greg Barnes Jr’s friendly selfie with a police officer has won the praise of several Facebook users. “As I alluded to in the initial post, all black men are not aggressive, not all police officers are bad and not all interactions between the two end in violence”.
After officer Shawn Cosgrove pulled Barnes over, he, too, took out his phone – but the selfie he later posted on Facebook Friday has gone viral for all the right reasons.
“Two bucks a piece, and I guarantee we can make a change in the lives of our youths”.
“The narrative is sometimes, aggressive black man, overzealous police officer and I hope they look at it from both sides”, Barnes said.
Barnes’s post has since garnered hundreds of likes and almost 500,000 shares on Facebook. So many, in fact, that Barnes is now asking people to donate instead to the to the Muncie Boys & Girls Club and the Roy C. Buley Community Center. When he was in college in Florida, he added, he was pulled over for having a burned-out license plate light.
Dennis Lee Tyler, the son of Mayor Dennis Tyler and a longtime friend of Barnes, said he was surprised by the lesson Barnes imparted with his post about the traffic stop. The soldier said there arised nothing unforgetable in regards to the internet traffic refrain from.
Barnes wrote, “I was pulled over today for speeding”. Both men asked each other about their days and were respectful and kind to one another.
‘I thought that would be a great moment, especially nowadays when there is tension all around the nation when it comes to policing’. “He was doing his job, and I had made a mistake in trying to hurry home to get started moving that led to our paths crossing”. “The officer did not know me nor did I know him, but we each showed one another a mutual display of respect in our interaction”, the photo’s caption reads.
