Top-seed Caroline Wozniacki survived a nail-biting scare Friday against Angelique Kerber of Germany at the Pan Pacific Open, advancing to a semi-final showdown against Belinda Bencic.
And there was danger this time, too – after Wozniacki cruised through the first set, 6-2, the No.5-seeded Kerber cruised just as much in the second set, retaliating by the exact same scoreline, 6-2.

In Friday’s other quarter-final, Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova stunned Serbia’s defending champion Ana Ivanovic 7-6 6-3 to set up a semi-final against 2011 champion Agnieszka Radwanska after the Pole defeated Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic 7-5 6-2.
