Seminole County deputy shot in leg, suspect injured during confrontation
A video of yesterday’s shootout in Winter Park, involving two burglary suspects and Seminole County Sheriffs deputies, was recently released.
Officials did not know the condition of the other man, who was wounded.
One of the suspects, 21-year-old Christian Joy, suffered multiple gun shot wounds after exchanging fire with Seminole County Sheriffs deputies.
Lemma said the incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. when deputies spotted a auto that matched the description of one seen leaving the scene of a burglary Wednesday.
A deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled, striking another vehicle and then backing into the undercover deputy’s cruiser before taking off again. A chase continued for several miles before the confrontation.
S.R. 436 and Aloma Avenue are closed in that area.
French jumped out and ran, but was soon caught by deputies. She has since bailed out of the Orange County Jail.
The suspect is being investigated for attempted homicide.
He is certified as a corrections and law enforcement officer, Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show. “This was an unfortunate situation, but I’m happy to say that I am doing well and on the road to recovery”. “He’s just at home recovering”.
The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1M5WoBr ) reports Joy was released from prison September 1 after serving two years following a conviction for selling marijuana and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.
The driver allegedly got out of the vehicle and started shooting at deputies, who fired back, Lemma said.
Because the auto chase spanned across both Seminole and Orange counties, deputies from both counties and the Florida Highway Patrol will investigate different possible charges.
