Sen. Chris Coons: Trump passed on meeting with Ukrainian president
President Yoweri Museveni is in NY for the 71st United Nations General Assembly now taking place at the United Nations Headquarters under the theme “The Sustainable Development Goals: a universal push to transform our world”.
The President will today (Tuesday) deliver a keynote address at the EAC Heads of State and CEOs roundtable hosted by the US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.
In rapid succession, Clinton met briefly with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and then Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
Trump did meet Monday with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during which the two discussed “the strategic bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Egypt”, according to a Trump campaign statement after the meeting. Clinton added that she was “anxious to know how we can be supportive of those efforts”.
Based on accounts from campaign officials and reporters who were able to glimpse snippets of the meetings, it was clear that Clinton, a former secretary of State under President Obama, had more experience than Trump, a NY businessman.
Poroshenko thanked the United States for strengthening sanctions against Russian Federation.
