Sen. Schumer, Cousin Amy Schumer Team Up for Tighter Gun Control Laws
“We’re here to say enough is enough“, the senator said in a press conference with his famous cousin in New York on Monday. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) appeared today at a press conference in NYC to announce a three-part legislative gun control plan.
The actress says “hate” directed at her is nothing new, especially as she has broached hot-button political issues in her comedy routines before.
Last month in Louisiana, a gunman killed two people and injured nine before killing himself at a screening of Amy Schumer’s movie Trainwreck.
Comedian Amy Schumer issued an impassioned call for gun control legislation alongside her cousin, Sen.
In her letter, Clements wrote that she wants to shut down ideologies that contribute to the harassment of women online, as well as combat “anti-feminism and anti-women ideals, the over-idolization of firearms and fetishization of what they stand for, and the easy access to guns”.
About 100 people were in the theater watching the film Trainwreck when the gunman began shooting his fellow movie goers with a handgun.
“We’ll never know why people choose to do these painful things”, the comedian said, “but sadly we always find out how”.
The senator described a three-pronged plan. Senator Schumer will introduce legislation to Congress that would reward states that submit all required information to the federal government, while penalizing those who don’t.
“The time is now for [the] American people to rally for these changes”, said Amy in closing.
“My heart goes out to Jillian and Mayci, to the survivors, to the families, and everyone who was tied to the tragic, senseless, and horrifying actions of this man who shouldn’t have been able to put his hands on a gun in the first place”, a visibly upset Amy said.
They would also see the Justice Department make recommendations on how states can stop the mentally ill from acquiring weapons, as well as halt cutbacks to federal spending on mental health programs. Apparently they had not heard about his uncle, the senator.
“I personally feel that the country is ready for this”, said McCarthy. “After the shooting, I dedicated my life’s work to gun violence prevention, and what I noticed immediately was that women are taking the reins in the movement”. He said that when his nephew started college last fall, his roommates wanted to know if he was related to Amy.
“I’m pretty stubborn”, she said.
