Sen. Ted Cruz Apologizes For “New York Values” Comment
Donald Trump and Ted Cruz ripped into each other Saturday morning, with the brash billionaire tearing into Cruz’s Canadian birth and two undisclosed loans he reportedly made during his 2012 Senate run, while the Texas senator unloaded on Trump’s record, temperament and fitness to be commander in chief.
Ted Cruz for his attack on “New York values” – and with good reason.
At the debate, Cruz said: “Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage, focus around money and the media….”
But now that Cruz is creeping up in the polls, actually leading Trump in some of them in Iowa, suddenly the fact that Cruz was born in Canada to a Cuban father and American mother is a very big deal.
Trump said the senator’s remark about Trump’s NY values, which was a dig at the perceived liberal tendencies, had been disgraceful.
Cruz said: “Listen, there are many, many wonderful, wonderful working men and women in the state of NY”.
The paper also published a response from New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo. “I invite you to come to the National 9-11 Memorial and Museum and see for yourself, and perhaps learn something about, the values of New Yorkers”. But many scholars say that simply being born in America does not make you an American citizen; that is the argument used to legalize anchor babies.
Steele said he talked to people in Iowa and many first time voters were going to go out and support Trump. Even though there had been many high paying jobs just south in Pennsylvania, New Yorkers are denied the ability to provide for their families.
“I mean, you give a campaign contribution to Ted Cruz, you get whatever the hell you want, OK?”
However, not everyone agreed that Cruz should apologize for insulting them.
Longtime New Yorker and Republican donor John Catsimatidis said Sen.
Cruz did not mention Trump to the Tea Party event but talking to reporters in Fort Mill, S.C., earlier in the day he was unsparing.
“Where the government mandates how much soda you can drink, where it is illegal to protect yourself with a firearm, and where its elected officials say that people who value unborn life aren’t welcome?” “New York values are the NY taxi driver who traveled three boroughs across four days to find the guy who had left $1,400 in his cab, so he could return the money to him”.
