Sen. Warren could be Hillary’s running mate
Bernie Sander is not on the list, but progressive MA senator Elizabeth Warren is a serious contender, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The vetting process for candidates, which also includes Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, Senator Sherrod Brown of OH, and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, is limited to scrutinizing public information and has not yet asked them to submit their tax returns and other personal information.
While some Sanders supporters had been hoping for a vice presidential nomination for him, Sanders himself wouldn’t be interested in the position anyway, according to a source close to him.
According to the Wall Street Journal the vetting is still in early stages, but Sanders’s name isn’t on the shortlist. Sanders wants the party’s platform to be more progressive and various changes to nominating rules.
Sanders has said he plans to remain in the race until the Democratic National Convention in July.
An offer to primary rival Bernie Sanders isn’t something the Clinton camp is considering at this time, WSJ added.
Some Sanders supporters have said Clinton should consider the Vermont senator as a potential running mate. The other potential choices for VP include Labor Secretary Tom Perez; Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro; Sens.
She also would give Clinton a vocal boost in her fight against Trump. Xavier Becerra of California and Tim Ryan of OH, several Democrats said.
Since I first voted in 1972, there has never been a truly progressive option for the presidency, and I won’t vote for the lesser of two destructive candidates again.
