Sen. Warren: GOP candidates too slow to denounce Trump
McCain told MSNBC he has fielded a “flood of calls” from military veterans unhappy with Trump’s remarks. “Somehow to denigrate that in any way is offensive, I think, to most of our veterans”.
Donald Trump called the Department of Veterans Affairs a “scandalous, corrupt organization”, and said the media “has done a false number, as usual”.
And in a contentious interview on NBC’s “Today” Show, Trump took issue with the media’s reporting on his comments about McCain’s war record, made at a conservative forum in Iowa.
Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum told viewers Monday on “Special Report with Bret Baier” that “John McCain is a war hero, period”.
McCain weighed in after Trump rocked the Republican presidential primary race with his seemingly offhand yet pointed dig at the longtime Arizona senator and former presidential candidate.
McCain was held prisoner and tortured during the Vietnam War, but says the real heroes are those who fought and died. John McCain (R-Arizona) out of context.
McCain finally addressed the controversy on Monday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, saying that Trump doesn’t owe him an apology, but he does owe servicemen and women one. “Our country was divided in nearly an unprecedented fashion during the Vietnam War and when I came home I was shocked”, he said.
In a hypothetical three-way matchup between Clinton, Bush, and Trump, Trump’s support was 21 percent from Thursday to Saturday, vs. 13 percent in Sunday interviews.
“He wouldn’t be candidate I would vote for,” said Jessica Aprile of Plaistow.
“Those are the people that I think he owes an apology to”, McCain said regarding Trump’s controversial remarks. “I do not need to be lectured by any of them“, Trump writes.
Until now, Republicans have been largely cautious in their handling of Trump and his provocations. Moon says they were close to getting Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, whom Moon is supporting for president and Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, but Trump was the first to confirm.
But so far Trump has managed to remain at or near the top of polls, which could be damaging for the Republican Party. “I do everything I can to help them”.
