Senate Confirms Sessions As The Nation’s Next Top Cop

President Trump will participate in the swearing-in of Sessions as attorney general Thursday. She was given an explanation. Jeff Sessions becoming USA attorney general, he was confirmed Wednesday evening. I hope everybody reads her letter-that’s Coretta Scott King’s letter-talking about why it is so important to have public officials who actually believe in equal rights and equal opportunities for all of us.
Democrats spent the hours before the vote seething over the rebuke of Ms Warren, who had been barred from speaking on the floor the previous night. Among those supporting Warren are her fellow Democrat senators and King’s daughter, Bernice. Ted Kennedy and criticized Sessions, who was at the time a nominee to be a federal judge.
Teachers unions, a major constituency for the Democratic Party, roundly opposed Ms. DeVos for the leadership post of an agency that sets education policy for younger children and universities and also administers a $1 trillion college financial aid program. Her point was more specific: McConnell and the Republican senators did not refute the claims King made about Sessions’ civil rights record.
Meanwhile, South Carolina’s black Republican senator, Tim Scott, gave a speech during which he read some of the disgusting hate mail he received for supporting Sessions.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (D-Mass.), received a rare reproach Tuesday during debate over the confirmation of Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell argued Warren violated Senate Rule XIX when she “impugned the motives and conduct of our colleague from Alabama”. She left the chambers to read the full text of King’s letter streaming on Facebook live.
“During his confirmation hearings, Jeff Sessions said he would enforce the gun laws already on the books”, wrote Everytown for Gun Safety President John Feinblatt in a statement.
Because Sessions is not only a nominee but a member of the Senate, stricter rules apply on what other Senators can say about him – even in debate about his appointment.
