Senate Passes Sunday Liquor Sales Bill
Rep. Christine Trujillo, D-Albuquerque, the sponsor of House Bill 46, pointed out the bill would not close any existing charter schools. Of those, House Bill 1733 would have allowed lawmakers to raise fuel and cigarette taxes at a later date.
Mark Dayton has said he will sign the bill lifting the ban which has been in place since 1935. The legislation makes provisions for First Steps to be reviewed by a joint House and Senate committee if the program has not already been subjected to a periodic review by the House and Senate Legislative Oversight Committees. There are some minor differences between the two bills.
“Do I feel strongly about the one less hour?” “We worked so hard to get to where we are”.
Eden Prairie Republican Jenifer Loon, who authored the House bill, said the extra hour in the House bill reflects one eight-hour shift, rather than two shorter shifts or possible overtime for other employees.
The Appropriations Committee continued hearings and working reports from the Budget Committees. After a long debate, both the amendment and the bill passed.
“We have heard from rural hospitals that there are literally millions of dollars sitting on the counters of these hospitals, waiting for this tax credit to go back to where I originally wrote the bill at 90 percent”, Duncan said.
Greiner said the method of adding wording to another bill is not a good idea and is hopeful legislators will not add wording to a bill that seems to be unattached to a bill that was defeated in the opposite house.
There is one last hurdle before the bill becomes law, however. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria, said Wisconsin’s lower sales taxes could continue drawing shoppers from border towns. Our service providers will receive no increase. Over 150 individual stakeholders, hospitals, advocacy groups, and private citizens expressed their concerns for and against the measure to expand Medicaid. The bill failed 48-34, with 51 votes needed for passage, but a move was made to reconsider the bill later.
On Thursday, the House took final action on the Medicaid expansion amendment, passing with a vote of 81 – 44.
The third bill, SB5541, is another attempt by Baumgartner to pass a teenage wage. They referred it to the Ways and Means Committee, which set a public decision-making meeting for 1:35 p.m. today in Conference Room 211. Bragg said. “WalMart has effected a lot of small towns but I can’t think of any other small business in a small town that has been protected specifically because a WalMart came in”. “I believe it was very helpful in getting this legislation passed”, Pitts said. Also, if you happen to visit the statehouse, please let my office know. It is in Room: 352-S. “Taxing the internet is the definition of interstate commerce, which is constitutionally reserved for Congress”.
Rep. Troy Waymaster, R-Bunker Hill, represents the 109th District in the Kansas House.
