Senate Reaches Deal On 15 Judges

No. 2 Senate Democratic leader Dick Durbin of IL said Thursday that his response to GOP accusations of Democratic mob tactics “is to say three words: ‘Lock her up'”.

Ethics complaints filed against Justice Brett Kavanaugh ahead of his Supreme Court confirmation are being transferred to another judicial circuit, BuzzFeed News reported Wednesday. Their best weapon is to simply win a majority in the Senate in the upcoming election.

The fight over the Kavanaugh nomination was always going to be dirty.

Simultaneous marches were to be held in nearby cities in Republican areas of IL – outside of the Democrat-stronghold of Chicago.

“Imagine being able to hold this administration accountable”, Clinton said, echoing the general sentiment that the election is a barometer of Trump’s popularity.

Just a month ago, Real Clear Politics’ average of the key polls for all of the Senate seats up for election in 2018 listed 9 seats as “toss-ups” that could go either way.

For months, it has looked as if Democrats would capture the House and Republicans would retain the Senate.

But with Democrats promising investigations into the Trump Organization’s affairs if they take control of the House, the stakes are high for the Trump family as well. He did so while simultaneously mocking Senator Elizabeth Warren of MA and saying that should she win the Democratic nomination in 2020 and they were to debate, he would toss an ancestry test to her and dare her to take it.

Across all 13 states, 40 percent of the midterm voters are likely to be “base Republicans”, regular midterm voters who essentially never split their ticket.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters interviewed October 7-8 has a 3 percent, plus or minus, margin of error.

The numbers grow more stark when viewed in certain states.

With all the sitting justices in attendance, along with Kavanaugh’s family and top admiration officials, Trump said Kavanaugh had been the victim of a “campaign of political and personal destruction based on lies and deception”.

Shifts in impressions of Kavanaugh are coming most sharply at the extremes. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, a deeply red state where Kavanaugh remains highly popular.

“Through his presiding role in the court’s conferences and his assignment of court opinions, he might redouble his efforts to find compromises that avoid party-line votes in cases”, they wrote.

In his own remarks, Kavanaugh, who has faced criticism that he appeared too politicized in his Senate testimony, tried to assure the American public that he would approach the job fairly. She may be the most vulnerable Democrat running. While no one knows if that energy will last until Election Day, Democratic voters driven by an animus toward Trump until now were far more motivated.

Democratic prospects have also faded over the past couple of weeks in two important states, Tennessee and Arizona.

Top Republicans have acknowledged that television scenes of anti-Kavanaugh protesters berating senators and interrupting Senate debate have helped them.

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Tex.) has galvanized liberals and is trying to expand the pool of voters and bring in a larger-than-usual share of younger voters and minorities.
