Senate Votes To Hold Off Government Shutdown … For Now
The U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday for a stopgap spending bill to avoid a government shutdown, but it did so without Congressman Ralph Abraham’s vote.
Remove the $10 million lower limit and include all not-for-profit healthcare institutions making at least what Planned Parenthood makes, and 292 of 1,423 CEOs earn more than Richards.
A Wisconsin Republican offered perhaps the most ridiculous argument against federal funding of Planned Parenthood during a Tuesday hearing that opened with an absurd suggestion and rolled downhill from there. The temporary bill would fund the government through December.
Richards stated, “The federal funding that Planned Parenthood receives allows doctors, clinicians at our health centers to provide Birth Control, Cancer screenings and treatment for STD’s”.
“Washington’s priorities are pathetic and absolutely absurd”, Huckabee exclusively told Breitbart News when asked what he thought about Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards testimony Tuesday.
NPR’s Ailsa Chang reports that the action now moves to the House.
At one point during the five-plus hour hearing, Rep. Jason Chaffetz showed a chart claiming abortions at Planned Parenthood were up dramatically, and breast exams were down – a chart that was totally misleading and “dishonest.”
Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the top Democrat on the committee, reminded his colleagues of the shady doings of David Daleiden and his Center for Medical Progress, which produced the hidden-camera videos that accuse Planned Parenthood of illegally selling fetal tissue.
Martinez said as a 16-year-old in Pacoima, she served as a Planned Parenthood peer advocate whose job was to “talk to my peers that look like me and spoke my language about how to prevent a sexually transmitted disease”.
Republicans say the videos, made by abortion foes posing as private purchasers, show Planned Parenthood has broken federal laws including a ban on for-profit fetal tissue sales. Richards rebutted the graph was from the anti-abortion group Americans United for Life, Jezebel reported.
Four congressional committees are investigating Planned Parenthood.
Richards, again remaining serious, said she did not agree and reminded the lawmaker that Wisconsin’s 22 Planned Parenthood clinics provided health care to 65,000 patients past year.
“Frankly, I was a bit dismayed at how little members of the committee even knew about women’s health at all”, she said.
Instead, Boehner and McConnell opted for the pragmatic route – a bipartisan measure that steers clear of the furor over Planned Parenthood and avoids the risk of a partial government shutdown – over the opposition of the most hardline conservative Republicans.
“I think supporting community health clinics would be one of the better ways that money could be used”, said Frank.
